The use of microelectrodes with AGNES
نویسندگان
چکیده
AGNES (Absence of Gradients and Nernstian Equilibrium Stripping) is a new electroanalytical technique designed to determine free heavy metal ion concentrations in solutions. AGNES had been applied, up to date, with conventional equipment such as the Hanging Mercury Drop Electrode (HMDE). Due to their much smaller volume, microelectrodes can reach a given preconcentration factor within a much shorter deposition time, so their use for AGNES has been evaluated in this work. For the particular case of the mercury microelectrode deposited onto an Ir disk (radius around 5 micra), AGNES has been successfully used for speciation purposes in the system Pb+PDCA (pyridinedicarboxylic acid). However, due to a relatively large capacitive current, which decays slowly, the limit of quantification for such microelectrodes has only been reduced by one half with respect to that of the HMDE.

Biological control agents are useful components in the enhancement of plant disease resistance and improvement of soil properties. Effect of biological control agents (BCAs) as a disease control method in plants is hampered by their vulnerability to environmental and edaphic conditions. This study entailed the use of chitosan-silica nanocomposites for delivery of BCAs. Effect of BCAs-nanocompos...

Background & Aim: The role of ryanodine receptor(RYR) on pacemaker activity of heart cells is controversial. Some investigators have suggested that it is obligatory, while others believe it is partial and not obligatory. The principle aim of this study was once more to characterize the role of ryanodine receptor(RyR) on the pacemaker activity of the sinoatrial node(SAN) and the atrioventric...

Fuel wood provides the main source of energy for cooking and space heating for over 80 percent of households living in Kenya. The heavy reliance on the biomass energy has exerted an imbalance in demand and supply consequently resulting in adverse environmental effects in Kenya. As part of innovation efforts, several energy-conserving technologies have been developed. A unique cook stove named M...

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the use of enzyme-based microelectrodes and amperometric methods to detect and quantify extracellular levels of choline and acetylcholine (ACh). Our focus will be on the application and evolution of these biosensor techniques for use in vivo rather than the electrochemical principles underlying their development and operation. For the lat...
متن کاملFreeze Drying Improves the Shelf-Life of Conductive Polymer Modified Neural Electrodes
Coating microelectrodes with conductive polymer is widely recognized to decrease impedance and improve performance of implantable neural devices during recording and stimulation. A concern for wide-spread use of this approach is shelf-life, i.e., the electrochemical stability of the coated microelectrodes prior to use. In this work, we investigated the possibility of using the freeze-drying pro...
